How to play

Origin: The kopstootje, literally little head butt, is the classic Dutch pairing of a brim full tulip glass of jenever with a beer beside it. In Amsterdam tasting houses the glass is filled to the meniscus, so you have to bend down for the first sip without lifting it.

Setup: A small glass per person, filled to the brim, plus a beer. The alcohol free version works with chilled juniper or lemon cordial.

How to play:

  1. The full glass stays on the bar, hands stay behind your back
  2. Everyone bends down at the same time and takes the first sip standing
  3. Only then may the glass be picked up
  4. The beer follows as a chaser

Drinking:

  • Lift the glass before the first sip and you down it
  • Spill anything and you buy the next round
  • Lean on the bar while bending and you take an extra sip

Style: Part of it is that nobody laughs at how silly it looks. That is exactly what makes it funny.
