Hua Quan (Finger Guessing)

Origin: Hua Quan (划拳) has been played at Chinese banquets since the Han dynasty and is still the loudest game at any feast. Traditionally the numbers are not simply called out but chanted in fixed rhyming formulas.

How to play:

1. Two players face each other
2. On the count both throw out zero to five fingers at the same time
3. In the same moment each shouts a number between 0 and 10
4. Whoever named the correct total of both hands wins the round

Drinking:

• The loser drinks
• Both right or both wrong: replay, nobody drinks
• Three wins in a row: the winner picks a spectator who drinks along

Variant: Anyone who does not shout loudly enough loses automatically. That is the real reason you can hear this game three tables away.
