How to play

Origin: Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit has been played at the Munich Oktoberfest and in Bavarian beer tents since the late 19th century. The band traditionally strikes it up about every 15 minutes, followed by the communal toast.

How to play:

  1. One person is appointed bandleader and starts the song
  2. Everyone sings along, standing up
  3. At the end the bandleader counts: one, two, three, drink up
  4. Now everyone clinks with everyone, eye contact required

Drinking:

  • After the toast the whole table drinks
  • Forget the eye contact and you take an extra sip
  • Stay seated and you buy the next round

Timing: Start it again every 15 minutes. That is exactly what the band in the tent does.
