Coaster Flipping

Origin: Flipping beer mats off the table edge is a pastime of German and Austrian pubs, as old as the cardboard coaster itself. It gets played wherever the beer takes longer than the conversation.

Setup: Beer mats or cards, a table with a straight edge.

How to play:

1. Push the coaster half over the edge of the table
2. Flip it up from below with your fingertips
3. Catch it out of the air with the same hand, no second hand allowed
4. Manage it and add a coaster, then two, then three

Drinking:

• Drop them and you drink one sip per coaster missed
• Use two hands and you drink double
• Hold the record of the night and you drink nothing until someone beats it

Escalation: From five coasters on, only a clean stack counts. Getting past ten sober is rare.
