How to play

Origin: The Bierjunge comes from the beer code of 19th century German student fraternities. That code regulated drinking customs as strictly as a law book, complete with accusation, duel and verdict. The Bierjunge is its best known survivor.

How to play:

  1. One player challenges another by shouting Bierjunge!
  2. A third person acts as referee and fills both glasses to the same level
  3. The referee counts: one, two, three
  4. Both drink in one go on the command and put the glass upside down on the table

Verdict:

  • Whoever finishes last has lost and is called Bierjunge for the rest of the night
  • Starting before the command means instant defeat
  • The loser may demand a rematch, but only once

Tone: The challenge is shouted loudly and solemnly. That is part of it.
